Nutrition: What are the Essential Nutrients?

Nutrition is essential for our bodies to function properly. It is made up of several different types of molecules, such as proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Macronutrients are carbohydrates, proteins and fats, which are used for quick energy. Vitamins are made up of several different types of atoms, such as vitamins A, B, C, D, E and K.

Minerals are made up of individual elements and help cells function, such as calcium, which improves bone health. All these nutrients are essential for the body to function properly. An example of nutrition is eating a healthy diet. Eating a variety of foods can provide us with different vitamins and minerals. Fruits and vegetables are naturally rich in nutrients.

Lean meats, fish, whole grains, dairy products, legumes, nuts and seeds are also high in nutrients. On the other hand, hard candy is an example of a low-nutritional food as it contains no more nutrients than some simple carbohydrates in sugar.
